So the sweeps map keeps shrinking. New York pulled the plug back in December, California followed in January, and a few others are making noise.
For those of us in states with no legal online casino, sweeps was the clean legal path. Now I am watching it get chipped away and wondering where this is headed.
Not trying to start a doom thread. Genuinely asking. If you are in a state that still allows sweeps, are you changing anything? Cashing out balances faster, spreading across sites, just carrying on?
And for the folks who already got cut off, what did you do? Back to nothing, or did you drift toward the offshore stuff I keep warning people about. Curious how the board is adjusting.
A few states just killed sweeps, where does that leave the rest of us

Re: A few states just killed sweeps, where does that leave the rest of us
Honestly this is the thing that worries me most lately.
When a state bans it, the sites usually just stop operating there and you get told to redeem any remaining balance. So practically, I have started not letting my Sweeps Coins pile up. I redeem more often now instead of hoarding for a big cashout.
Is it overkill? Maybe. But I would rather have the money out than be scrambling if mine gets added to the list.

Florida guy here, no legal online casino and the sweeps situation feels shaky everywhere now.
What I am NOT doing is panic running to offshore. Read enough horror stories on this board to know that is trading one problem for a worse one.
For now I just play less and keep it cheap. If sweeps goes away here too, honestly I will probably just stop. Not gonna chase it into something with no recourse.

Reasonable thread, appreciate the level heads.
My read: the regulatory direction on sweeps is going to keep being state by state and messy for a while, so the practical move is exactly what Sandy said. Do not hoard a balance you cannot redeem if the rug moves.
And to TJ's point, the worst outcome of a sweeps ban is people sliding to offshore thinking it is equivalent. It is not. If sweeps leaves your state, sometimes the right answer is just play less, and if it is stressing you out, take a break entirely. The games will outlast all of us.
