how i set a deposit limit and actually stuck to it

ok so this is kind of embarrassing but whatever, maybe it helps someone.

Back in February I was depositing way more than I told myself I would. Like I'd say 50 bucks for the week and then it'd be Wednesday and I'd already reloaded three times. Classic.

What finally worked: I set a hard deposit limit right in the account settings. Most of the regulated apps let you do a weekly cap, mine is $40 now. The thing is, when you LOWER a limit it kicks in basically right away, but when you try to raise it there's a cooldown of like 24 hours or a week depending on the site. That cooldown saved me more than once honestly. The urge passes.

I also turned off the saved card so reloading isn't one tap.

Four months in and I haven't busted the limit once. Not gonna pretend it fixed everything but it took the panic out of it.

anyone else use the limit tools? did the raise-cooldown thing actually hold you back or did you just wait it out?

Good on you for posting this. The raise cooldown is the single most useful feature on these apps and almost nobody turns it on.

One thing I'd add. A deposit limit only caps what goes IN. It doesn't stop you chasing with money already in the account. So pair it with a loss limit or a session time limit if the site has one. Some do, some only offer deposit caps and call it a day.

Killing the saved card is underrated too. Friction is the whole point.

love this. i'm in NJ and the regulated apps here all have the weekly deposit cap, i set mine on a sunday night when i'm thinking clearly lol, not friday after a couple drinks.

the cooldown on raising it is real. i tried to bump mine once and it told me wait til the next week. by then i didn't even want to. so yeah it works if you let it.

I track mine in a spreadsheet alongside my cashout times, just a column for deposits per week vs the cap. Seeing it laid out keeps me honest more than the in-app number does for some reason.

fwiw if your site only does deposit limits and not loss limits, the workaround I use is just withdrawing winnings immediately instead of letting a balance sit. Money in the bank doesn't get re-bet. Four months clean is great, keep at it.
